OUR FIRST ROAD TRIPS




So now with our new beauty Ellie we thought it was time to give it a test run plus let me get use to driving the beast. We sat down with a map and set our sights on a day trip to Wave Rock. We got told it was a 3hours drive so we thought not a problem . So we packed our bags wrote our wills and headed off for adventures unknown . We soon realised this 3 hour day trip may take a little longer then we thought as Ellie top speed was only 100kph but most of the time we went 80kph . So 3 hours went to 4 hours that went to 5 but finally we arrived and as nice as Wave Rock was, I don’t think justified a 5 hour trip . We then notice on a map that a 20min walk we would get to a place called Hippo’s Yawn . Our spirits lifted and we set out on our trek . 20mins later we arrive and well lets say Wave Rock was cool to this. Just to put u in the picture Wave Rock and Hippo’s Yawn are rocks that have been eroded over the years through an acid rain. So even though they are a credit to mother nature at the end of the day they are just rocks.
So as it was getting late we decided to check into a caravan park and set up for the night. We popped the top made the bed and settled down for the night . Even though it was a hot day we remembered at about 1 am that it is still Australia’s winter and it was cold and guess what our little sheet and blanket was not enough for warmth.

We decided to get up at about 6 in the morning since we had not slept and we were freezing. So we hit the road on our trip back . But as a little treat for our cold night we stopped at a sizzler on the way back to Freo . We got a steak and mash and chicken and chips and the famous sizzler all u can eat buffet and drinks for $35 which is about 8quid each.
We arrive back at the hostel a little tired but now with the travelling bug and we decided to bring forward our trip to Broome a few months. So after a week off lazing around the hostel and treating our self to a hard-fi concert and a trip to the zoo, we said our good byes and again hit the road, this time travelling from south of Australia to the north. Maybe we bit of a little more than we could chew a little early but we thought no one remembers people who tried their best , they remember people who fuck the prom queen and this trip was our prom queen :o)
Our first port of call was the Pinnacles, but on the trip Chobo’s foot that had been swollen for a few weeks was beginning to hurt again so we stop at a town near by call Jurien Bay so we could see a doctor. The good news was she was not going to loose it . The bad news was she needed two blood test’s so we decided to stay in Jurien Bay for a few days for her to rest it and let her medication kick in.
We soon realised Jurien Bay was a nice place to stay with a nice campsite and a nice be














Two day later we set out for the Pinnacles. On our journey we saw our first wild kangaroo the bad news was it dead. The good news was 20yards down the road we saw our second kangaroo but again bad news it was also dead . As we travelled further down the road we realised that this followed a familiar pattern . This is how the rest of our trip continued to date and believe me we have seen A LOT of kangaroos.

After that we headed further north to Geraldton where we were based for 4 days to give Ellie a well deserved break from driving . The further north we moved the hotter and hotter it got by the time we got to Geraldton pretty much every day was above30oC .
After recharging our batteries we set out on the open highway with Carnarvon our target and after a long and hot 400k drive we arrived at our location. Carnarvon is most famous for its satellite dish which was set up by NASA in 1966 to track its Gemini and Apollo space mission and was use to beam back the moon landing to Australia.


Again we are on the road and we next arrived at Exmouth the home of the Ningaloo Reef .We checked into our caravan park which had a amazing tropical pool(salt water) which we spent every day at also we found a nice pub which was about a 200yard walk from our van. So I thought to my self here is my chance to put my newly acquired open water padi skills to the test and I signed up for the next available trip . Due to the high winds it took me 6 days to get on to my dive but when I done it was well worth the wait I spoke to a few people who said the enjoyed it more then the great barrier reef it self. You have to wait a few months for me to confirm that but the GBR will have to be pretty cool to compete. Within 4mins of my decent My instructor gave the sign for a shark I thought this was ironic that I waited so long for this dive and it would end so quick so I said my preys shit myself and looked around waiting to come face to face with my maker. Luckily for me it was a white tip (6ft)and did not seem to bothered with us so I let go of my dive buddy who I was preparing to use as a human shield gave him a friendly tap on the back and the ok sign and we carried on our merry way. Also on this trip I bumped into my first sea snake what was about 5ft . This cheeky chappie thought it be fun to follow me for the whole trip and even those they are mostly friendly they are one of the most poisonous creatures in the sea.
